Drowning

They say the eyes are windows to the soul,
But what if those windows are broken and filled with panic?
A desire, above all else, to live?
What if you can see that all in a breath taking second?
The eyes scream, "Save me!"

But at what cost?
A life is saved.

Those eyes will haunt you forever.
When you close your eyes at night,
All you'll see is those eyes.
You try to avoid it
But you know that you'll see them again.
Today, tomorrow, next week.
Always on someone new,
But always the same.
Broken.
Panicked.
Helpless.
But a life is worth the torment.
Many lives are worth it all the more.
